Welcome Back!  It’s been more than a year since the group met and we’ve revamped our focus!

In the 2021-2022 year, the “Maryland ATD Baltimore City Instructional Design Community of Practice” will become the “Maryland ATD Healthcare and Public Health Talent Development Community of Practice.”

We believe that this new focus on individuals that work in healthcare and public health talent development will allow us to better serve our members and meet the needs of individuals working at the intersection of these two specialties. We are an inclusive community and welcome anyone already working at this intersection, or those interested in this space.

In addition, instead of focusing only on Baltimore city, we plan to have regular meetings online that serve a broader region in Maryland and may have more local meet-ups as health and safety allows throughout the year.

In this first meeting, this will be the general agenda:

  • 20-30 minutes – Introductions and meet-and-greet
  • 45-55 minutes – Brainstorming and Needs Assessment for the group (led via Miro)
  • NOTE: PLEASE join via laptop or personal computer if possible so that you can fully contribute to this portion of the meeting
    • During this time, we will utilize online tools to capture the needs and preferences of the group regarding: meeting times, topics, professional development interests, etc.
    • This activity will be interactive, so please come ready to contribute!
    • 5-10 minutes – Debrief and Closing

Community of Practice Founder and Meeting Leader Bio:

 Jennie Toner-Algın, MEd, MSPH, CHES

Jennie has lived and worked in Baltimore, Maryland since 2017, when she returned to the U.S. with her family after working at a university in Istanbul, Turkey for 8 years. After arriving in Maryland, Jennie quickly became active in the local chapter of ATD and founded the Baltimore City Instructional Design Community of Practice, which she has led since its inception (with a small break for COVID).

Soon after arrival, Jennie started an MSPH program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Health Communication and Health Education, while working full-time for CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield in clinical education development. In December 2020, Jennie (finally!) finished up her MSPH and started in a new position working with MITRE, a federally funded research and development center, where she works in the Health Innovation Center on Health Communications and Organizational Development projects for federal contracts. Jennie also had a previous MEd in Human Resource Development that she completed in 2008 at Xavier University, so she is excited to work at the intersection of these two specialties!

In addition to her most recent work and studies, Jennie has 15+ years of experience in learning development and evaluation, public health communication/education strategy and health program planning. She has subject matter expertise across various settings, including health insurance, higher education and learning solutions consulting. Much of her work experience has been international, and in addition to Turkey, she has worked in Ecuador, Japan and Cambodia.

In her “free time” she likes to hang out with her 6-year-old, tackle her weekly CSA delivery by cooking new dishes and take walks along the Baltimore harbor.
